DIY applying of nano ceramic coating

Recent years showed great improvement in surface care protection technology, resulting in nano ceramic coating being more and more used for protection of car’s factory paint. Nano coating is better at paint protection that traditional car waxes, car polishes or car sealants, as well as being long term alternative for those. Due to technology ceramic coatings are based on and from what, they are very long lasting, have self-cleaning and hydrophobic features, advanced UV protection, all while giving extreme gloss finish for car’s paint.

Nano ceramic coating can be either be applied by skilled professionals at car detailing shop or by car owners themselves using DIY kits. It is not that hard process, but requires big attention to details so coating can provide its features. First step for those opting for DIY kits is rinsing car’s paintwork.
This needs to be than thoroughly and all contaminants like dirt, dust sand and rest should be removed from the surface. Best way to do this is traditional car wash with car soap and water bucket. Next step is chemical decontamination done with a good bug and tar remover together with iron fillings-based product so all harmful iron deposits are removed.

Following is phase 2 decontamination with clay bar and clay bar lubricant. Phase 2 is reserved for removal of any remaining contaminants which could have stayed embedded in car’s clear coat. Paint of the car should be as perfect as it could be since nano coating will seal in any remaining defects on the paint surface. To do so, car should be polished which will remove any small swirls and light scratches. Additional benefit of this step is glossier finish. If paint has deeper scratches and visible swirl marks, machine compound is used to eliminate said marks. Last step before applying ceramic coating is isopropyl alcohol wipe.
Any residual polishing oils should be removed by spraying an isopropyl alcohol mix on the surface and wiping it with a micro fiber towel. This step is important to ensure perfect bonding of nano ceramic coating to the surface. After all this comes applying the nano ceramic coating. DIY coating kits usually come with applicator and a quality micro fiber towel. The bottle with coating needs to be shaken well before put on the applicator. For best results, coating should be applied on 2x2 sections using left to right and up and down motions. After 20 to 30 seconds product will flash meaning it is ready to be removed with micro fiber towel. Once the whole surface is coated, car needs to be kept in a cool dry environment for at least 24 hours. For that time the paint will be cured.

To have full potential of paint protection coating and for it to last as long as possible, proper and regular maintenance is necessary. Coating does reduce frequency of washings needed but does not mean it should be left for months without cleaning. Also every 2 to 3 months coating should be sprayed with silica spray to maintain its features.
