Coursera’s SEO courses


Coursera is well known internet platform that provides universal access to the courses online on various topics, often in partnership with the top universities from all over the world. Every course consists of recorded video lectures, auto-graded and peer-reviewed assignments, while being taught by some of the best instructors and teachers from mentioned universities. Once a source is completed, Coursera awards participate with sharable electronic Course Certificate.
Among numerous topics, Coursera provides a few SEO courses. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Specialization is advertised as course for becoming an SEO Expert with great skills in using search engine optimization tools and strategies. This specialization teaches how to optimize content on the website so it results in the best possible search engine ranking. Google’s search engine algorithms, as well as algorithms of other search engines, are detailly explained. Courses also teach practical skills, such as on- and off- page optimization or optimization for both international and local audiences, which can be used in other ways of digital marketing or any kind of content development. Specialization consists of 6 courses with purpose to build skills from previous one so it is the best to do them in order. When subscribing to specialization, one is subscribed to the all courses. If only one or few are interesting, it is possible to cancel subscription after they are done. Besides courses, part of Coursera’s specialization is Capstone Project where participants can apply learned skills to do a SEO task. Once all six courses are completed, participant is given an electronic sharable certificate for successful finish.


First SEO Course in this specialization is introduction to SEO and explanation of search engines algorithms. Next one on fundamentals of SEO, teaching the key elements for creating good and effective SEO plan with highlights on keywords, keyword research, search behavior and on-page analysis on how to improve already done optimization. Third course give full tutorial how to optimize a website for search, from applying keywords to content marketing strategy. After these third course most of the basics will be understood so following courses take on advanced material. In next two specialization courses, tackled topics are advanced content and social tactics to optimize SEO, and advanced search engine optimization strategies. 

What participant will learn is how to deal with content marketing, social media and influence marketing. Since social and mobile strategies are quite popular these days, guide on how to use most of them also found way in these courses. This specialization is completed with website optimization client report project. Main purposes of this project are to apply acquired knowledge and practice SEO skills and tactics. Project requires optimizing a website of choice from the ground-up, developing a SEO solution using majority of learned stuff, such as keyword research and competitive analysis and other SEO services.

Another advantage of Coursera specializations, SEO and others, is very active community. The community often gives feedback through the peer review process providing additional input to help refine approach to SEO and presenting funding to clients and management.
